Stevenson Roofing recently completed the replacement of an old cedar shake roof on an older home in Bellevue, WA. The first thing we did is remove 31 squares (3100 sq. ft.) of old cedar shakes.
Next we blew in AttiCat® expanding fiberglass insulation to bring this older home up to current insulation standards. Blowing the insulation into the attic literally adds millions of tiny air pockets that provide excellent insulation in a very fast and cost effective way.
After the insulation, we removed the old skip sheeting and installed 100 sheets of CDX 1/2 inch plywood. This creates a solid foundation for the roofing material
Then we installed CertainTeed’s DiamondDeck™. This is a high-quality, scrim-reinforced, water-resistant, synthetic underlayment that serves as an additional weather barrier. DiamondDeck™ is superior product to felt because it’s tear resistant, very durable, and harder to accidently puncture. It can be used with shingle, shake, metal or slate roofing.
The home owner chose a beautiful Storm Grey, Legacy laminated shingle. This is a high-profile, extreme weather shingle. It comes with a 50-year lifetime limited warranty and features a 20-year Scotchgard™ Algae Resistant warranty from 3M. Legacy is a superior line of modified asphalt shingles that combines both beauty and durability. The Legacy line is just one of many great roofing products manufactured by Malarky Roofing Products.
After installing the new legacy shingles, we replaced all of the ridge vents, and the chimney roof and roof flashing. We used high profile ridge caps to show off the hips and peak.
This roofing project came out perfect. The style and color of shingle picked by the homeowner’s accents their home perfectly. Getting the insulation to current code will saving substantial money over the life of this roof. The quality, warranty, and professional installation of this roof will add value, comfort, and protection for many years to come.
